NSFAS Application Opening Date And Deadline 2025-2026

2025 NSFAS TVET Walk-In applications Calendar Opening date Closing date

  • NSFAS Applicaton Open Date; 21st November 2024
  • NSFAS Application Closing Date; January 31, 2025,
  • NSFAS Trimester 2 Applications 5th May 2023 22nd May 2025
  • NSFAS Semester 2 Applications 17th July 2023 31st July 2025
  • NSFAS Trimester 3 Applications 04th September 2023 20th September 2025

NSFAS Eligibility Criteria 2025-2026

Before applying for NSFAS, familiarize yourself with the eligibility criteria. For the 2025-2026 academic year, applicants must meet the following requirements;

  • South African citizens or permanent residents
  • SASSA grant recipients
  • Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
  • Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
  • Must have an email account and cell phone number.

NSFAS Required Document For Application 2025-2026

To complete your NSFAS application, certain documents will be required. These documents include;

Students with disabilities must provide:

  • A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:

  • An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

  • Retrenchment letter
  • Death certificate/s
  • Divorce Decree
  • Proof of legal guardianship
  • Marriage certificate
  • other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.

NSFAS Application Process 2025-2026

As the application portal is open for the 2025-2026 academic year, you may follow the steps provided below to apply for NSFAS;

  • Create a profile:

Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.

  • Apply now:

Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.

  • Complete:

Submit your application.

  • Track Your Application:

After submission, log in to My NSFAS Application regularly to track the progress of your application. Keep an eye out for any updates or additional requests from NSFAS.

NSFAS Allowances for 2025-2026

NSFAS disburses the following amounts to cover the educational expenses of students;

University Students-

  • Accommodation: As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
  • Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
  • Book allowances R5200 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET College NSFAS Allowance

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
