There is good news for South African students who want to pursue higher education but are constrained by money. For the academic year 2025–2026, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will soon open its application and start accepting applications.

Important Dates and Deadlines for 2025 NSFAS Applications
The NSFAS application portal will open and accept applications from eligible students for the 2025 academic year. NSFAS has given potential students ample time to compile the required documents and complete their applications before the closing date. The NSFAS application portal will OPEN on 21st November 2024 and CLOSE on January 31, 2025.
Prospective applicants must do well to submit their completed applications before the closing date, as late applications may not be considered by NSFAS for the 2025 academic year.
NSFAS Eligibility Requirements 2025
You must be eligible for NSFAS financing to receive funding. To be eligible you must be;
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
- Must have an email account and cell phone number.
NSFAS Application Required Documents 2025
Prepare the following documents to complete your NSFAS application:
Students with disabilities must provide:
- A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide the following:
- An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
Other documents that may be required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.
How To Apply For NSFAS 2025
To apply for NSFAS for 2025, follow the steps below;
- Create a profile:
Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
- Apply now:
Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.
- Complete:
Submit your application.
NOTE: Complete your application online through the official NSFAS website (www.nsfas.org.za). Ensure that all the information provided is accurate and up-to-date. Submit your application before the specified closing date.
