NSFAS 2025-2026 Application Opening Date

The NSFAS application portal for the 2025-2026 academic year is now OPEN and accepting applications from qualified students. Apply today for the opportunity to receive NSFAS funding for the 2025-2026 academic year. The application portal is already available and will remain open until January 31, 2025. Late applications may not be accepted for the academic year if they are submitted after the deadline.

Who Can Apply For NSFAS 2025-2026

You are eligible for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen planning to study in 2025 or are currently enrolled at a public university or TVET college and meet the following criteria:

• South African citizens or permanent residents
• 
SASSA grant recipients
• Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
• Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
• Must have an email account and cell phone number.

Who Should Not Apply For NSFAS 2025-2026

• Students who have already applied for and obtained funding,
• have not yet graduated from their current qualification, and do not intend to change sectors (TVET College to University or vice versa).

They will be supported automatically for the remaining period of their study if they pass their courses and meet the academic requirements.

Required Documentation For NSFAS Application 2025

Before you begin your NSFAS application, ensure you have the following documents ready:

Students with disabilities must provide:

• A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:

•  An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

• Retrenchment letter
•  Death certificate/s
• Divorce Decree
• Proof of legal guardianship
• Marriage certificate
• other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter

NSFAS 2025-2026 Online Application Procedure

To apply for NSFAS, follow the detailed steps provided below;

• Create a profile:

Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.

• Apply now:

Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.

• Complete:

Submit your application

Restrictions for NSFAS 2025-2026 Application

Applicants must note that;

• If NSFAS discovers that an eligible student has misrepresented or falsified their details and these do not match with third-party data sources, it is considered a criminal offence.
• NSFAS retains the authority to cancel or refuse financial aid to the student if necessary.
