Can I Apply For NSFAS Without Parents?

NSFAS requires a consent form from parents. If either of your parents is deceased, provide a certified copy of the death certificate. It is essential to understand that NSFAS evaluates the financial circumstances of both the applicant and their parents or guardians. While the primary consideration is parental income, there are specific situations in which you can apply for NSFAS without involving your parents. These circumstances include:

  • Orphaned or Emancipated Students: If you are an orphan, have obtained legal emancipation, or have no contact with your parents, NSFAS allows you to apply without providing parental information.

Who Can Apply For NSFAS 2024-2025?

Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS funding for the 2024-2025 academic year;

  • Create a profile:

Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.

  • Apply now:

Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.

  • Complete:

Submit your application.

Required Documents For NSFAS Application 2024-2025

Applicant must submit copies of these documents;

Students with disabilities must provide:

  • A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:

  •  An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

  • Retrenchment letter
  •  Death certificate/s
  • Divorce Decree
  • Proof of legal guardianship
