NSFAS Application Opening Date for TVET Colleges second Semeter 2025
NSFAS does not require the student to apply every semester or year, therefore the online application for the NSFAS Funding portal will be open on July 17, 2025, and close on 31 July 2025. The NSFAS Application portal will only accept early applications and late applications may not be considered for 2025.
Eligibility for NSFAS Funding at TVET Colleges
Before starting your application, it’s essential to know if you qualify for NSFAS funding. The basic eligibility criteria include:
- You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2025 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
- Must have an email account and cell phone number.
How to Apply for NSFAS Funding at TVET Colleges for the Second Semester of 2025-2026
Applying for NSFAS is an online process, that allows applicants to apply from anywhere in the country. Follow these steps:
- Create a profile:
Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
- Apply now:
Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.

Required Documents For NSFAS Application 2025-2026
For the 2024-2025 academic year NSFAS application, the following documents are required;
Students with disabilities must provide:
- A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:
- An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
Other documents that may be required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.
What Happens After Applying for NSFAS 2025?
After the closing date, the NSFAS will review applications and notify successful applicants. Once you receive this notification, you’ll need to sign the NSFAS Bursary Agreement (NBA), which details the responsibilities and expectations of you as an NSFAS beneficiary.
When will application results be communicated in 2025?
Each applicant will be notified of their application status after NSFAS receives confirmation from the institution that an academic offer has been offered to them. This will be sent to you via SMS, email, and your myNSFAS account before the start of the academic year.
