If you plan to pursue higher education in South Africa and need financial assistance, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) can be of help. this program plays an important role in offering financial support to eligible students. to be eligible, you have to meet certain criteria before you can apply to the scheme. and in applying there are steps you have to follow to be considered for acceptance. As 2025 NSFAS applications are being accepted on 21st November 2024, kindly follow these steps to apply.

Application Opening Date For NSFAS 2025-2026
- On November 21, 2024, the NSFAS application portal for the 2025-2026 academic year will open. As a result, the application portal is already available and accepting applications from qualified students for the academic year 2025-2026.
- The application portal is set to close on January 31, 2025, thus applicants should submit their applications before the deadline, as NSFAS may reject late submissions.
Eligibility Requirements For NSFAS 2025-2026
To apply for NSFAS funding, you must meet specific eligibility criteria and they are;
- Must be a South African citizen / permanent resident
- Combined gross household income should not exceed R350 000 per annum
- Combined gross household income (persons living with disabilities) should not exceed R600 000 per annum
- SASSA recipients automatically qualify for financial eligibility
- Must have email and cell phone number
Required Documentation For NSFAS Application 2025-2026
To streamline your NSFAS application, ensure you have the necessary documents ready beforehand. Typically, the required documents include:
Students with disabilities must provide:
- A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:
- An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
Other documents that may be required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.
How To Apply For NSFAS 2025-2026
Follow the steps below to apply online for NSFAS 2025-2026;
- Create a profile:
Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
- Apply now:
Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.
- Complete:
Submit your application.
