NSFAS for Unisa Student Application Date 2025
NSFAS Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are currently open and accepting applications from November 21, 2024. The UNISA NSFAS application will end on January 31, 2025, thus all interested students are encouraged to apply before the deadline. Please keep in mind that NSFAS does not accept late applications for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Who Qualify To Submit UNISA NSFAS Application 2025
You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2025 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
- Must have an email account and cell phone number.

2025 NSFAS Application At UNISA
Please visit the Unisa registration website for the registration dates: www.unisa.ac.za/register
Follow these procedures to successfully register for NSFAS online:
- Create a profile:
Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
- Apply now:
Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.
- Complete:
Submit your application
If your NSFAS application is provisionally approved, you do not need to pay the minimum registration fee. Your registration will be automatically activated based on the NSFAS funding confirmation received by Unisa.
2025 Appeals Date At UNISA
Appeals for new and continuing students will be open from
- 15 February 2025 to 15 March 2025.
All students are required to appeal directly to NSFAS via the myNSFAS portal.

Who Might Receive Refunds At UNISA
- All NSFAS-funded students who pay the minimum registration amount to activate their registration will be refunded.
- A refund will only be processed once NSFAS has confirmed the successful processing of registration data to Unisa.
- An application for a refund is not necessary.
NSFAS bursaries (Funza Lushaka, Department of Military Veterans, and Department of Justice [TRC])
- Students funded under these bursaries must renew their funding with their funders during their applicable application dates.
- Students are encouraged to visit their funders’ web pages for application dates.
