2025 NSFAS Applications Open 21 November 2024; nsfas application 2025 closing date
NSFAS Financial aid applications for learners entering tertiary education and current students without financial assistance for the 2025 academic year are currently open, therefore all prospective applicants yet qualified must begin to apply NOW!!!.
Students pursuing higher education in 2025 are encouraged to apply within this timeframe. Importantly, first-time applicants to post-school education must apply on the official website of NSFAS at www.nsfas.org.za.

NSFAS Application Opening Date And Deadline 2025
In 2025, NSFAS will open their portal for applications from qualified individuals from November 21, 2025. All applicants are entreated to submit their applications on or from this date until the closing date. The NSFAS application portal for the 2025 academic year will close on January 31, 2025.
NOTE: All completed applications must be submitted before closing as NSFAS may not accept late applications.
Eligibility Criteria For NSFAS 2025
You must be eligible to receive funding from NSFAS for the 2025 academic year. The following group of people are eligible to apply for NSFAS funding for the 2024 academic year;
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
- You must have an email account and cell phone number.
Who Does Not Qualify For NSFAS 2025?
YOu may not apply for NSFAS funding for the 2025 academic year if;
- You have already applied and received funding in previous years
- You have not yet graduated with your current qualification
- You do not intend to change from one sector to another (TVET College to University or vice-versa).
How Do I Apply For NSFAS 2025?
NSFAS application has been made more straightforward due to the introduction of online mobile and internet applications. You may apply for NSFAS funding through mobile applications by creating a Mynsfas account on the NSFAS official website through the NSFAS App download on Google Play or the Apple Store. Follow the step-by-step guide below to apply online for NSFAS funding for the 2024 academic year;
- Create a profile:
Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Use your ID number as your username.
- Apply:
Click on the “Apply” tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.
- Complete:
Submit your complete application. Submit your complete application before the closing date.
NOTE:
- It is deemed a criminal offence by NSFAS if it finds that an eligible student has fabricated or misrepresented information and that this does not align with information from other sources.
- NSFAS reserves the right to revoke or reject the student’s financial aid if required.

Documents Required To Apply for NSFAS 2025
To apply for NSFAS, Upload certified copies of the following documents;
- Students with disabilities must provide:
A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form.
- Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:
An applicant recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker.
Other documents that may be required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes, retrenchment letter
*Be aware that the system will generate a list of required documents to upload based on the application type.
