Apply NSFAS 2024 Now! The NSFAS Online Application portal is open for the 2025 academic year. To all those who wish to apply for NSFAS for the 2025–2026 academic year, the management of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is urging: before submitting an online application through the myNSFAS Student Portal, please make sure you are eligible for NSFAS and have all the necessary documents ready.

We strongly advise all applicants to submit their applications as soon as they become available and before the deadline for NSFAS to evaluate them for 2025.

NSFAS Application Opening Dates And Deadline for NSFAS 2025

The NSFAS Application portal opens on November 21, 2024, and closes on January 31, 2025, therefore, interested students must begin to apply now since the application portal is currently open and accepting applications from eligible students for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Prospective applicants are urged to submit their applications before the closing date as late applications may not be accepted by NSFAS.

Who Qualifies to Apply for NSFAS 2025-2026?

If you are a South African citizen planning to study in 2024 or already studying at a public university or TVET college and meet the following conditions, you are eligible for an NSFAS bursary for the 2025-2026 academic year:

All SASSA grant recipients
Must have email and cell phone number
Be a South African citizen with a valid ID number
Be a first-time entering university or TVET college student
Household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum
Must meet the academic requirements for admission to a university or TVET college
For persons living with disabilities, household income should not exceed R600 000 per annum

Students with disabilities must provide:

A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:

An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

Retrenchment letter
Death certificate/s
Divorce Decree
Proof of legal guardianship
Marriage certificate
other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.

Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.

How to Check NSFAS Status 2025-2026 Application

To Check your NSFAS Application Status for 2024, you need to follow the steps below:

Visit the NSFAS status portal at www.nsfas.org.za
Click on the myNSFAS tab on the NSFAS homepage
Login to myNSFAS account with your username & password
Click on the sign-in button on the screen
Then you click on “Track Funding Progress” to check NSFAS Status.

Things NSFAS Bursary Cover?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, NSFAS Funding bursary covers the cost of tuition, and some additional expenses related to your studies, which include:

Accommodation: NSFAS covers the cost of on-campus or off-campus student housing.
Textbooks and study materials: NSFAS can provide you with a study allowance to purchase the required textbooks and materials for your course.
Meals: The NSFAS provides a meal allowance to help cover the cost of food while you are studying.
Travel expenses: NSFAS provides a travel allowance to help cover the cost of travel to and from campus.

Breakdown of NSFAS Allowances for 2025-2026

University Students

Accommodation: As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
Book allowances R5200 per annum
Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
