If you’re a student in South Africa with dreams of pursuing higher education but facing financial barriers, there’s good news for you! The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will soon open its application process for the academic year 2025-2026.

NSFAS Application Opening Date And Deadline 2025/2026

The NSFAS application portal for the 2025-2026 academic year will open and actively accept applications on 21st November 2024. The application portal will be closed on January 31, 2025, therefore, eligible students and prospective applicants are advised to APPLY NOW!!!.

Applicants must note that NSFAS may consider late applications for the 2025 academic year, all applications must be submitted before the deadline.

NSFAS Eligibility Criteria 2025/2026

To be eligible for NSFAS funding, you must be;

South African citizens or permanent residents
SASSA grant recipients
Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
Must have an email account and cell phone number.

NSFAS Required Application Documents 2025/2026

Prepare the following documents to complete your NSFAS application:

Students with disabilities must provide:

A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide:

An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

Retrenchment letter
Death certificate/s
Divorce Decree
Proof of legal guardianship
Marriage certificate
other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.

Complete your application online through the official NSFAS website or on the NSFAS App. Ensure that all the information provided is accurate and up-to-date. Submit your application before the specified closing date. Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS;
