NSFAS Allowance 2025-2026

The specified amounts for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials must adhere to the most recent DHET guidelines.

University:

• Accommodation: Aligned with the actual costs charged by the university (private accommodation costs should not exceed those of university residences).
• Transport: R7,500 per year.
• Living allowance: R15,000 per year.
• Book allowances: R5,200 per year.
• Incidental/personal care allowance: R2,900 per year for students in catered residences.

TVET:

1. Accommodation in an urban area: R24,000 per year.
2. Accommodation in a peri-urban area: R18,900 per year.
3. Accommodation in a rural area: R15,750 per year.
4. Transport (up to 40 km from the institution): R7,350 per year.
5. Transport: R7,000 per year.
6. Incidental/personal care allowance: R2,900 per year.

Who Qualifies For NSFAS Funding?

1. All individuals holding South African citizenship
2. All recipients of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
3. Candidates whose total household income does not exceed R350,000 per year
4. Individuals with disabilities: Combined household income must not exceed R600,000 per year
5. Students who commenced their studies before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122,000 per year.

What Is the 2025 NSFAS Payment Date

First Semester NSFAS Payment Date:

• Cycle 1 – All Campuses 26 February 2025
• Cycle 2 – All Campuses 06 March 2025
• Cycle 3 – All Campuses 22 April 2025
• Cycle 4 – All Campuses 20 May 2025
• Cycle 5 – All Campuses Monday 17 June 2025

Second Semester NSFAS Payment Date

• Cycle 6 – Medical School 01 July 2025
• Cycle 6 – All Other Campuses  08 July 2025
• Cycle 7 – All Campuses 05 August 2025
• Cycle 8 – All Campuses 02 September 2025
• Cycle 9 – All Campuses 07 October 2025
• Cycle 10 – All Campuses (Final payment for 2025)  04 November 2025
